Many years ago, humans used to worship cats like gods. Our feline friends seem astutely aware of this, as they treat their humans like servants. Fortunately for cats, they do it in an endearing way that touches our hearts. From ringing doorbells to opening food containers, these 40 loveable cats were caught red-handed in hilarious situations. Keep reading for your daily dose of cute cats.
Ding Dong!
Winston is a grey and white tabby that belongs to Jamie Dunn, an emergency medical technician living in Sitka, Alaska. On 7 December 2020, Winston was captured on camera ringing the video doorbell to be let in the house. Emily Webber from MailOnline covered the story, which included a 27-second video clip of Winston, nestled on a wooden railing, discovering the doorbell and waiting in the darkness for Jamie to open the door.
The cat looked just as surprised to hear Jamie reassuring him through the intercom, saying, “Winston, I am coming to get you,” as Jamie was that he rang the bell instead of using the cat flap. When Jamie shared the clip on Facebook, she received numerous comments, including one stating, “I have three cats. They have learned that when the spotlight comes on, I’ll open the door to let them in.”
It’s Not Me, It’s Him!
Have you ever wondered if your pet feels guilty for chewing your shoe or eating the prime steak you had left on the counter to rest for a few minutes? Scientists generally believe that dogs do not feel guilty, but their findings are not indisputable. The consensus is that they pick up on social cues like the tone of your voice and that the guilty expression (ears pointed backward and big sad puppy-dog eyes) has a wholly different meaning to our furry friends than it does to us.
Myanimals.com says it is a technique dogs use to get out of trouble. Research conducted by psychologytoday.com shows that 59% of owners are more lenient on their pets when they have a guilty expression, and they, therefore, believe that the guilty look could be a learned reaction of our cunning companions.
It Was Nice Knowing You
Reddit user jaker2343 uploaded this eerie photo of his black cat staring into the fireplace. The cat’s reflection through the glass looks like a dark shadow with evil eyes. The OP (original poster) told Redditors in the r/funny community that he thinks his cat is trying to summon a demon. Another Reddit user joked that the cat was plotting to kill his owner.
“One night, you’ll wake up to go empty the bladder. And as soon as you hop off the bed, you’ll feel someone grab your ankles and drag you under your bed,” the user wrote. “It was nice sort of knowing you, OP.” Reddit user Trollw00t offered an interesting theory that makes a lot of sense. “The reason why cats like to lay around warm places is that it reminds them where they come from. Hell,” they quipped.
You Are What You Eat
This cat has decided to experience life from inside his feeder bowl. He looks reasonably comfortable in there, with the luxury of being able to have a nibble whenever he feels a little hungry. We wonder if he’s figuring out an escape route or planning to eat all that food. Although free feeding may seem like a bad idea, it has advantages.
You would only have to feed your cat once a day. There only needs to be enough food in the bowl to sustain your cat for the day. If you make too much food available, either your cat will overeat, or you will have to throw some food out at the end of the day. Your cat will eventually learn to eat small portions throughout the day rather than wolf it all down in one go.
Hurry Up and Drive, Human
Most cats don’t enjoy being inside vehicles, but this one jumped into a stranger’s car to go for a ride. “I left my GF’s place last night and got in my car,” Reddit user AfroCircuit recalled. “And this fuzzball jumped on my lap and meowed, what I assume was ‘let’s ride’ in cat, and began purring for no reason.” When AfroCircuit chased the strange cat out of the car, it defiantly sat on his hood.
He started calling the cat Octane after it stayed over for the night. “She’s very lovely and follows me everywhere and refused to let me sleep alone last night,” AfroCircuit explained. “So I think it may belong to someone.” After taking “Octane” to the vet, AfroCircuit discovered that “she” was a male named Tango. In the end, Tango’s owners came to fetch him, and AfroCircuit was catless again.
The Cat on Top Is Literally on Top
The tabby in the picture below is not spouting ginger paws or an extra head. He is actually sitting on top of his brother. There are several theories as to why cats do this, including to keep warm or for companionship or security. However, the explanation that makes the most sense is that they are establishing a hierarchy.
It is quite a civil method considering they could be shredding each other or clawing the other’s eyes out. This method of finding out who is the top dog, or cat in this instant, is non-violent, but it is invasive, and excuse the pun - in your face. However, some cats don’t seem to mind too much and manage to sleep through the experience.
Lost Cat Returns Home With Twin in Tow
Stanislav Zak sent his friend a post about his missing cat that arrived home with a look-a-like, which went viral once comedian James Felton picked up on it. “Last month, my cat disappeared. A week ago, I found him and brought him home. Today my cat came back. Now I have two identical cats.” That is the message Felton shared with his over 330,000 Twitter followers.
It turns out this is not a unique experience. Felton’s fans shared their accounts of friendly felines which went missing, only to reappear with a twin in tow. You will be amazed by how often this has happened. There are negligible differences between the cats if you view them side-by-side, but if the twin’s owner doesn’t claim him, we think Stanislav will need to invest in different colored collars to tell them apart.
Unbreakable Bond
Best friends Ralph and Nala play together every day. Each day Ralph, a tabby cat owned by a policeman in the UK, goes to the house in his neighborhood where Nala, a calico cat, lives. He waits outside until the owners open the door, then walks in to say “Hi.” Her owner wrote on Reddit, “He comes to collect our cat (Nala) for playtime every day and waits outside like this.”
Nala is always waiting for him and appears anxious if he is late. Her family loves to see the bond the two besties have formed and says if Ralph did not already belong to someone else, they would adopt him. If you are in the market for a new pet, instead of buying one from a breeder or pet store, why not adopt a cat or a dog from a rescue shelter?
How to Save Your Christmas Tree
A fully decorated Christmas tree is a wondrous sight for the young and old alike. It brings nostalgia, hope, a sense of togetherness, and family unity. It symbolizes the start of the holiday celebrations. It also brings out the playful, mischievous, and downright naughty. Victor is a beautiful fluffball of a cat that, much like other felines, loves dismantling and playing with Christmas decorations.
However, his owner Olocco found the one thing which stops Victor in his tracks: tangerines. He says they were sitting on the couch together when he grabbed and started to peel a tangerine. Victor hissed and bolted. Olocco set up a barricade around the Christmas tree to protect it against his beloved yet troublesome cat. All it took was a few strategically placed tangerines on the floor, circling the outermost reach of the decorative baubles.
Cats That Thrive in Winter
Can you picture the scene from the photo below? A cat takes one step outside and decides nothing is worth having cold, wet paws. That would be the exact reaction of most felines, but not all our furry friends feel the same. Some breeds of cats love everything winter entails, including the freezing snow. Eight cat breeds, in particular, thrive in wintery conditions.
A Norwegian Forest Cat has a thick insulating coat, keeping it warm in winter and cool in summer. The Maine Coon is a large domestic cat that also sports long, thick fur to keep it warm in the below-freezing winters, as do the Siberian, Persian, Himalayan, and Ragdoll breeds. Also on the list is the Turkish Angora which is famous for its mismatched eyes and fluffy white coat. The Russian Blue has short thick, dense fur to keep it warm.
Cats Get Jealous Just Like the Rest of Us
Cats love affection, but only when they want it, and can become wrought with jealousy if a fellow pet steals its human’s attention. The cat below is furious that the dog is sneaking love right in front of it. Cats are notoriously territorial about what they consider theirs and quickly display signs of envy and jealousy.
Like you would a small child, you need to be aware of how a change in routine or environment can affect your cat. It may act out in different ways, including showing aggression, becoming antisocial, or even urinating or defecating in the house. The first step in dealing with a jealous feline is identifying the cause. Try to spend more time with your pet and set aside a space they like that is especially for them. Introduce new toys and reward good behavior.
You Are in Trouble
Cats express emotions with so much finality. The trust and acceptance reflected in their large innocent eyes make you instantly fall in love, especially when paired with purring and a full-body rub. However, being in their bad books can be a daunting experience, making even the strong quiver. There is no other being that shows displeasure and scorn like a cat.
We wonder what the cat in this picture is thinking. It looks like it has been waiting patiently for some time, and its human is late. He does not necessarily look mad. His expression looks human. Like the food is getting cold from their dinner date, or he is waiting to discuss plans for the family vacation or a mediocre school report. Whatever the reason, he looks like he has been there a while.
What Nellie Won’t Do for a Tasty Treat
Some of us understand the obsession Nellie the cat has with food and can especially understand the draw of freshly baked cookies. Her owner Allison knew how deep-rooted her love affair was with food, even managing to teach her tricks like sitting and fetching with a touch of tasty bribery. That is why Allison ensured the cookies she made for the office were tucked securely in a sealed Tupperware until it was time to go.
However, she underestimated her cat. Allison says that Nellie opened the container and took cookies out one at a time. They had been laid out unbroken on the dining room floor, each with a nibble missing. Allison says she never heard a thing until Nellie knocked something over, and she came to investigate. She added that Nellie showed no guilt. She just looked proud of her accomplishment.
“I’ve Never Seen That Before! ”
Miso is not a fan of his new diet. His humans have discovered that he has been hiding food to eat later. However, some people believe Miso’s expression tells a different story. “That is the face of a cat who has been framed,” Reddit user Valmyr5 claimed. “It registers shock, disbelief, resignation, a sense of betrayal. This is an innocent cat being exploited for karma. And he’s not fat, either. It’s just fluff.”
According to seniorcatwellness.com, cats instinctively hide food for several reasons, including masking their territory or protesting a dietary change. It is more common for canines to bury food for later, but felines can sometimes indulge in this behavior. Cats with a big appetite prefer that food is always accessible. So now that you’ve heard both possibilities, do you think Miso is guilty, or has he been framed?
Like Mother Like Son
This mother cat has one blue eye and one brown eye. This rare condition, known as heterochromia, affects six in 1,000 people and is more common in dogs and cats. White cats are more likely to have heterochromia. Amazingly, this mum has passed on the genetic condition to her son. However, he is the mirror image of her. It’s almost like they swapped their left eyes.
All kittens, including odd-eyed cats, are born with two blue eyes. The eye color only changes within the first few weeks, when the body distributes melanin throughout the iris. Some cats acquire heterochromia later in life due to an eye disease. The condition doesn’t affect the ability to see. However, white cats with blue eyes are prone to deafness. Odd-eyed cats have a 40 percent chance of being deaf in one or both ears.
Fat Tiger Mountain Climbing
Don’t be fooled by the lack of stripes: this chonky cat on the roof is a vicious predator. He only has to sit on you, and it will be game over. You can’t hide, but you may be able to outrun him. This adorable grumpy chonk looks like the chubby tiger in the painting on the left. The artwork is from a series called “Fat Tiger Mountain Climbing” by a Chinese artist named Uncle Fujima.
The ginger cat’s fat cheeks are called jowls. When an unneutered male cat goes through puberty, his scent glands enlarge to form jowls. They are also called tomcat cheeks or stud shields. Jowls signal to fertile females that the male has reached sexual maturity. They also serve as a warning to other male cats and protect the neck during territorial fights.
Kazmir the King Cat
Reddit user Loverstits paid 175 Canadian dollars for a professional photo shoot of his cat, and it was money well-spent. His tabby cat Kazmir is in his element on the rocky terrain. He looks more like a royal cat than a domesticated pet. “What you can’t tell in this picture is he’s actually a total idiot, addicted to eating plastic and puking it up at 3 am,” the owner said. We would never have guessed.

The Quintessential Pet in Istanbul
This photo of a senior man cradling a kitten on a bus in Istanbul is the epitome of benevolence. The way he’s affectionately smiling at the cat is just too adorable. Istanbul is home to over one hundred thousand feral cats. Some estimates put their population at closer to a million. Unlike street cats in the United States, stray cats in Istanbul have a comfortable life.
They are considered community-owned pets, and Turkish people provide food and water for them. Turkey has a no-kill, no-capture law that applies to all its street animals. Animal abuse is punishable by up to four years in jail. The country also has a majority Muslim population. In Islam, cats are considered holy animals because of their cleanliness. Some Muslims even believe that the water from a cat’s water bowl is clean enough to perform ablution for prayer.
This Photo Edit Is Finger-Lickin’ Good
Twitter user @mequishiaa (Melissa) didn’t realize what she was signing up for when she adopted a Sphynx cat. Every time Melissa sends her parents a photo of their grand-fur(less)-baby, they edit the photo to make the cat look like raw chicken. And the cat seems to be aware of it. She appears to be thinking, “Don’t take a photo of me. Am I a joke to you? I know your parents will make me look like a plucked chicken.”
Sphynx cats are naturally hairless but only came into existence in the ‘60s through selective breeding. Although they look a little odd, they make great pets. They’re warm and always ready to cuddle with their humans. They’re also friendly and playful. They’ll probably greet you when you come home. Their personalities are more like dogs than cats.
Long Live the King
This image seems to be straight out of that heartbreaking scene in The Lion King, where Scar lets Mufasa fall to his death. But we’re sure this story had a much happier ending. Maybe the owner called the local arborist to rescue the cat from the tree. Or perhaps the cat eventually let go and landed safely on its feet. At least the branch is not that high off the ground.
Cats are great at climbing up trees, but sometimes they need help on the way down. The curve of their retractable claws helps them climb upwards but makes it difficult to hook the branches coming back down. And their front legs aren’t as strong as their back legs. Mother cats also don’t teach their kittens how to climb trees. Many cats are too scared to turn around if they climb too high.
Keep It Simple, Stupid
Many cat owners try to move mountains for their cats. They purchase expensive cat toys to please their feline friends. However, most cats are not interested in elaborate gifts. They are often happier sitting inside a cardboard box or a plastic bag. Reddit user travelakoa found out the hard way when they bought a plaything for their cat, who preferred the plastic packaging. “Cat logic is beyond reality,” the cat owner wrote.
Reddit user Whokitty9 explained that cat logic is simple. “The cost of the actual item directly correlates with how much the cat will ignore it. The higher the cost, the more it will be ignored and the more the packaging will be used by the cat. It is simple cat math and logic.” Studies show that cats feel calmer in boxes because they keep them warm and safe from predators or annoying humans.
Orange Cat Spies on His Neighbors
Reddit user GreenLigh meowed at his neighbor’s ginger cat once, and now it regularly comes to visit. GreenLigh has a narrow glass panel on his front door, which the cat peers through. They explained that it’s sometimes a “terrifying experience” to see the cat staring inside the house. “Especially at night if our porch light is off and the cat gets glowy eyes,” GreenLigh wrote. “We are a little concerned it’s learning our routine for nefarious reasons.”
GreenLigh doesn’t know the cat’s name and refers to him as Orange Cat. When other users asked why they don’t let him inside, GreenLigh explained that he would love to, but he has a retired hunting dog inside the house. “Orange cat is much safer outside. Our neighbors are good pet owners who keep orange cat fed and happy. They just let it wander sometimes.”
A Live-Action Remake of How to Train Your Dragon
Toothless is the black Night Fury from How to Train Your Dragon, who becomes Hiccup’s pet dragon. In the third movie, Toothless meets a white Light Fury, and the two dragons fall in love. The two cats in the photo are about to touch their noses, just like the dragons in one of the movie scenes. It almost seems like these cats are auditioning for a live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon.
They are also the spitting image of Toothless and Light Fury. Since the first movie came out in 2010, Toothless has been a common cat name. Many people feel that the lovable Night Fury resembles a feline. According to the film directors Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, the animators based Toothless’s body and movements on one of the artist’s cats.
The Difference Between a Dog and a Cat
Pet owners can’t agree on which animal makes the best pet. You’re probably either a dog person or a cat person. While both can make great companions, dogs and cats differ in many ways. A prime example is this photo of these two pets. Both animals look like fluffy white clouds, but their temperaments are poles apart. The puppy is a cumulus cloud that appears in the sky on a sunny day.
The cat is a storm cloud. Its disdain for the energetic pup is festering. Many occasions are stressful for cats and can cause them to become irritable. These can include meeting a new pet or person, moving to a new place, or even a small change in their schedule. Cats are independent, expressive animals. You will always know if they’re unhappy about something.
The Most Loyal Cat
Loyalty is a quality most associated with dogs. However, a cat in England has become a local legend because of his unbelievable loyalty. Katy Preen is a cat lover who saw this legendary feline at her local grocery store. “He walks with his owner (who lives 100 yards in the other direction from the supermarket) to the shops and waits patiently outside while they do their shopping,” Katy explained.
According to Katy, the cat has no harness or lead, yet he doesn’t move until his human comes out of the store. “It is remarkable,” Katy expressed. “Something I’ve never seen before. Cats aren’t known for their obedience. He looks so proud of his role, and he does it so well. A dog would do it because they have to, but a cat does it because they want to. I told you cats were better than dogs.”
Is This Anger or Affection?
According to Reddit user fieldsc, he accidentally knocked over his cat’s bowl of milk and had no more milk left to give his cat. He then implied that when he sat down to eat dinner, his cat glared at him because of the spilled milk. While it does seem like the cat is looking daggers at him, we don’t quite believe this story. And most of the commenters are also not convinced.
Many people accused the OP of fabricating the story for upvotes. “Closing the eyes is actually a sign of trust and affection,” Reddit user MadroxKran wrote. It’s true that when cats blink at you, they are relaxed and displaying affection. However, cats also stare into their opponent’s eyes to assert dominance and authority. Is the cat in the photo glaring at its owner, or is it squinting to show affection?
The Cowgirl Cat Who Loves Riding the Rocking Horse
This story is another one that people on the internet don’t believe. According to a Reddit user, their cat Asia loves their children’s rocking horse. The part that sounds fictitious is that Asia will allegedly meow until someone rocks her. That’s not typical cat behavior. Redditors weren’t buying it and asked for video evidence. The OP replied that he was out with his girlfriend but agreed to upload a video later.
“Just an update for the masses,” the OP wrote. “I know people doubt, but this cat really is something strange. But we are going to try and get a vid for you guys tomorrow. We were both surprised that she likes to be rocked on it. We just think that she thinks she’s one of the kids.” He then deleted his Reddit account, leaving us all hanging.
Large Marge Is at Large
This poor cat missed her owners so much when they were away on holiday that she hid the whole time they were gone. The house sitter couldn’t find her, but she reappeared as soon as her owners returned. “I’m not sure how you are going to dig yourself out of this situation,” one Reddit user commented. The OP replied: “Treats...lots of treats.”
Another Reddit user was concerned that the owners didn’t introduce the cat to the cat sitter. However, the cat sitter was the OP’s sister, who knew all three cats very well. “Large Marge hides from all company,” the OP explained. When asked about the name choice, the OP replied, “Lol. It’s only so, when we go out, we can say, ‘Ok, Tacocat, don’t eat all the treats. Ollie Bear, be nice to your brother. Large Marge, you’re in charge.’”
The Rug Has Eyes... And Claws
This image of a black cat at night looks so creepy. The only visible part of the cat is her glowing green eyes. Reddit user SgtJim posted the eerie shot of his cat Lea to show how difficult it is to take a photo of her in the evening. “Well, that was one of the scarier things I’ve seen today,” commented Redditor Drake55645.
When another user mentioned that she had heard of the walls having ears but never the floor having eyes, the OP reminded her that his rug has claws, too. Imagine tripping over Lea in the dark and then having her sharp claws piercing your leg. Every cat owner has probably accidentally stepped on or tripped over their cats. It happens. Especially since cats love walking in front of people to lead the way.
This Cat Is Broken
Whenever Reddit user Kris-P chops onions, her cat tilts her head at a 90-degree angle. “I think she’s broken,” Kris-P wrote. Although the owner was kidding, she might not be wrong, considering that she got her cat from Craigslist. “Did you turn it off and on?” joked Reddit user ScientificMeth0d. Another user who is not “particularly fanatic about cats” claimed she saved the picture, which is now her all-time favorite cat picture.
We wonder if the cat is confused by the chopping noises or her owner’s onion-induced tears. Reddit user DukeFluke must have thought the same thing because they asked how the cat reacts when the OP cuts broccoli. “Similarly interested but with much less head tilting,” Kris-P replied. Cats often tilt their heads to find the source of a strange sound. They also do it involuntarily when curious about something, just like how humans frown.
