Not everyone believes that their appearance should be the top priority when there are so many other things that need to be taken care of. And while some people make sure that they are well kept, there are others who couldn't care less.
Take the 52-year-old Jeffrey Schultz, for example. As the older he got, the more his appearance no longer did he care about went downhill. He didn't care about keeping himself tidy and neat. Lori his wife was fed up with that though. She wanted the man that she married back. And so she set out to find a makeover artist who would be able to bring back the man that she married.
Where Did the Time Go?
Over time, it's natural for our looks to change. And sometimes when the change is so gradual you don't really see it happening. Some people don't realize how drastic the change is. Jeffrey like most men and women, one about their busy lives without thinking about how the years were affecting them.
It took Jeffrey's mother-in-law to clear out her attic and find old pictures of Jeffrey to prove how much he changed over the years. For Lori, the pictures were proof that she needed to get done what needed to be done.
The Transformation
Lori was not only shocked and stunned by the photographs, but she couldn't believe how much her husband had changed. At the beginning of the relationship Lori noticed that Jeffrey had barely any whiskers on his chin and his hair was floppy. As she recalled the way her husband once looked, she couldn't help but smile.
Of course, to her, he had always been handsome and attractive. But that was years ago, and she wanted that handsome man back at her side. She then reached out to Rachael Ray, hoping that the television host would be able to help her get her husband back. Sending out two pictures of Jeffrey, she waited with anticipation for a response from Rachael Ray.
A Popular Television Show
Rachael Ray's show happens to be a very popular talk show on television in the United States. The show is somewhat of a variety show seeing as how Rachael Ray not only teaches how to cook, but she also talks to famous people and does a few makeovers now and again.
Rachael Ray doesn't only focus on healthy meals for the family, she is all about wellness both mind-body and spirit. She is known for focusing on health and well-being, which is why sometimes she does the makeover segments. People from all over the country have been helped by Rachael Ray and her makeovers. Not only do they get a new wardrobe, but they also get a new lease for life. It was the show that Lori sent Jeffrey's picture in hopes that maybe Jeffrey would be able to get polished up.
Big Fan
It just so happens that Mr. Jeffrey with a huge fan of Rachael Ray. Not only did he tune in to watch her show every week, but he also owned many of the products that she endorsed and created for department stores.
Lori, of course, knew how much her husband enjoyed the Rachael Ray show. She now that if anyone can get him to do a makeover, it would be Rachael Ray. So you can imagine how excited Jeffrey was when the Rachael Ray show contacted them to be a part of their makeover segment. Of course, Jeffrey was nervous about being on national television, but he also knew that he couldn't say no to such an amazing opportunity to meet Rachael Ray.
An Added Bonus
Little did Jeffrey know he wasn't just going to be able to hang out with Rachael Ray, he would also be paying out with Kyan Douglas.
Mr. Douglas happens to be a grooming expert and has changed many people's lives all thanks to his appearance on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. It is with his ability to turn ugly ducklings into swans that Miss. Rachael Ray brought him along to help out and getting her guests as groomed and polished as they could be.
Working Wonders
There's no doubt that Mr. Douglas has changed thousands of people's lives over the years. He has been able to work wonders and bring out the natural beauty in both men and women. And although he could have hung up his hairbrush after the popular television show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy ended, he continued to do his makeover magic.
It's no secret that he loves his job and enjoys making people over. He has stated several times and on many occasions how important the outward appearance has on a person to feel good on the inside. It just goes to show that with a little TLC on the outside he'll actually start loving yourself on the inside too.
Not Working Alone
But Mr. Douglas was not the only makeover artist who was on hand during the Rachael Ray segment. Mr. Kyan Douglas teamed up with Elena Linares to bring people's inner beauty out. Now granted not a lot of people know Elena by her first name. But you might know of her fantastically successful barbershops that are called Razzle-Dazzle Barbershop.
Elena has been in hair and glamor games since the 1980s. She has proven herself and her work over the years and now is quite famous around the world for her talents and her distinct take on barbershops.
A Big Difference
According to Elena, men should be pampered just as much as women. It is this concept and idea they gave her the inspiration to create a completely new and unique barbershop. Elena's barbershop is decorated to inspire men to not only feel at ease but feel at home.
She isn't like the other barbershops with her trying to push guys out of the chair as quickly as possible, no she wants a guy to be completely satisfied with the service. Her style is flirty but professional and gives each guy a big ego boost.
Professional
There was no doubt in Jeffrey's mind that he was in good hands with the two stylists. Elena had plenty of years under her belt and with her award-winning barbershops sprinkled throughout the country, she had a reputation that others couldn't compete with. It was because of this reputation that she had been on so many talk shows throughout the years.
It didn't take long before Jeffrey and Lori had fallen in love with Elaine as well. However, Jeffrey was on the fence about getting a makeover. His major concern was what was going to happen to his beard after all it took him years to grow it out.
Not Quite Ready
When Jeffrey and Lori were approached to be on the Rachael Ray makeover show, they were excited at first. But as the days grew closer, Jeffrey was feeling a little anxious. It was clear that he would have to take part in a dramatic makeover in order to be on the show, but was he ready to do it? His main concern was who would be looking at him in the mirror after it was all said and done.
Granted he didn't have any problems with his appearance, he just never had any intentions of changing. Although he didn't know that his wife Lori wanted to see a clean-cut version of him, he didn't know whether he is able to go through with it. The tipping point for him was the chance to meet his cooking idol, Rachael Ray. It was then he knew he had to go through with it.
A Little Bit of Magic
Jeffrey had seen several episodes of the Rachael Ray show and knew exactly what he was getting into when he was selected for the makeover. He had watched in all as Rachel's team worked magic on Brandon Helms and Stacy Collins.
The couple from North Carolina or not only happily in love, but they both shared at this taste for getting glammed up. Neither one of them took any pride in their appearance. The couple would wear matching camouflage jackets and pull a brush through their hair to make it tidy, but that was as far as they would go. But Stacy reached out to Rachael Ray and requested a makeover so that she can get in touch with her girly side once again.
What's up With the Beard?
When Kyan first noticed Brandon, he knew the beard had to go. Despite the fact that Brandon had the beard for years, Kyan managed to persuade Brandon to let go of the beard. It was a tough decision for Brandon, seeing as how attached he was to his facial hair. But in the end, Brandon let it go.
It was this very thing that Jeffrey was worried about. His beard was a foot long, and he didn’t want to part with it seeing as how long it took him to grow it. Although Jeffrey couldn’t picture himself without one, he knew that it would have to be chopped off to get to the man he was before. After all, he didn’t have the beard when he first met his wife and so; he knew he would have to part with it.
Just Go With the Flow
Brandon was very similar to Jeffrey and didn’t want to lose his beard, but in the end, knew it would make a dramatic change. After all was said and done, Brandon was surprised at how he felt without it. He even mentioned that it was a nice change, and it improved his inner self as well as his outer appearance.
But Brandon wasn’t the only one to get a make-over, Stacy came out showing off her new girly look that she had all but forgotten. And of course, her hair was marvelous, all due to Kyan’s personal touch in making it the best it could be.
Too Far?
The moment finally arrived and Jeffrey stepped on stage with his long time idol as well as Kyan and Elena. The experts took one look at him and couldn’t believe what they were working with. Each had a great idea as to how to bring out Jeffrey’s inner beauty to the outside world, and they quickly got to work.
But before they started, Rachael Ray had one very serious question to ask Jeffrey. She wanted to know just how far he was willing to go with his make-over. And so she asked the bearded man just how far her team could go with the make-over. With a grin on his face, Jeffrey mentioned how his wife met him with no hair on his face, and that was as far as he would go. It was the confirmation Rachael and her team needed to get to work.
Reflection
Now Jeffrey had been watching Rachael Ray for some time. In fact, you could say he was one of her biggest fans. So, he knew what to expect going into the make-over. Jeffrey knew that the stylists on the show loved to clip, chop, and shed unattractive hair, including beards and ponytails. One of the contestants Jeffrey remembered was Travis Herman, who participated in another makeover edition.
Travis’ story was a bit different from Jeffrey’s though. Travis had actually been the one to request the make-over. But Jeffrey felt more of a connection to Travis than any other make-over contestant to appear on the show. Both Jeffrey and Travis game Rachel Ray’s team to have complete make-over authority.
Undercover
One of the most popular transformations on the Rachael Ray show was Travis’s makeover. What made it so popular was the fact that Travis went undercover and his wife had no idea what was going on. Travis and the makeover team worked all night to ensure that it would be a surprise for his wife come morning.
The team, as well as Travis, understood that they had to tackle his beard. The moment that it was shaved Travis could feel an immediate difference. The heaviness on his face was gone, and it was a huge change for him.
Shock and Awe
It was amazing to see what was underneath the beard, for Travis had not seen his face in years. He knew that if this change was so drastic for him and that he would be even bigger for his wife. And when the time came for Travis’s wife to see him during the big reveal, she went into a state of shock. She had stated how she wanted to cry, but that she just couldn’t help staring at her husband and his new look.
But Travis’s wife wasn’t the only one shocked but the transformation, even Rachael Ray was surprised when she saw the difference. Rachael Ray is gone, and state how Travis’s new look reminds her of George Clooney. With all this in mind, Jeffrey knew exactly what was in store for him.
A Long Time Coming
The transformations that take place on the Rachael Ray show may seem like they are done within a few hours. However, the truth of the matter is it takes days to accomplish such a feat. For Jeffrey and Lori, they not only had to fly for five hours to get to New York, but they also had to state in New York four days to ensure that the makeover team had enough time to complete the transformation while filming.
Although Lori did stay with her husband most of the time, she did have to be separated from him during the makeover sessions. After all, it would be a big reveal if she was watching the whole process. The producers of the Rachael Ray show wanted Lori’s genuine shock when she saw her husband for the first time after his big change.
Getting to Know You
Although it took four days for the transformation and filming to take place, Lori and Jeffrey got a chance to see New York and all the sites before filming began. The couple even got a chance to hang out with Rachael Ray before the show even started filming.
Rachael Ray understood that Lori and Jeffrey had to come a long way and wanted them to feel welcome and of course to get the most out of their time while in the big city. Granted, Rachael Ray was extraordinarily busy, the television host made time to visit with Lori and Jeffrey before the whole makeover took place.
Donations
Jeffrey had been growing his hair out for some time and by the time he got to his makeover team, the length was past his shoulders. Both Elena and Kyan knew fully well that they would have to chop off his hair in order to get to the man underneath. Granted, Jeffrey wasn’t too thrilled about this and expressed his feelings over the matter, but in the end, the makeover team felt he would just look better off with shorter hair.
So what happened to his hair? They don’t need it to Locks of Love, which is a Florida foundation that makes hairpieces and bags to give to children and adults who have lost their own hair.
Helping Hand
It’s sad to know that both adults and children lose their hair for many reasons, but cancer or some other health complications. But that is where Locks of Love step in. This group gives young people a confidence boost with high-quality wigs.
Although Jeffrey was attached to his hair, both literally and figuratively, he knew that he was very lucky to have a full head of hair. And after learning what was going to happen to his hair once it was chopped, he had no further issues about the makeover team chopping it off. He wanted to help others and if it was by donating his hair, then so be it.
A Viral Trend
Believe it or not, hair donations are a growing trend that isn’t slowing down anytime soon. And thanks to makeover segments on the Rachael Ray show, the trend will continue for quite some time. It seems that the more people who get makeovers on the show, the more they want to help the less fortunate.
Take Susan for example when she was on the show back in 2016. It turns out that Susan was nominated to have a makeover by her sisters. The one request that her sisters had was to get rid of her long hair that draped down Susan’s back. But because Susan’s husband loved her long hair, she never got it trimmed.
Snip Snip
When it came time to snip Susan’s hair, it wasn’t the makeover experts or Rachael Ray; it was Jessica Alba. The Hollywood actress happened to be on the show that day and wanted to jump in and help.
Turns out the just calm us daughter also donated her hair to Locks of Love and was pleased to know that Susan’s hair would be donated to the foundation as well. After Jessica made the first snip, Susan went backstage to finish the rest of her makeover. When all was said and done, Susan’s new look stunned not only the audience but her husband and her sisters as well.
Taking the Studio by Storm
No doubt Jeffrey's makeover took the studio by storm. But the one person who is in complete all the change was none other than Jeffrey's wife Lori. She couldn't believe that the man who stood before her was in fact, Jeffrey. In the last 20 years, she had been looking at a man with long hair and a thick beard.
Because Jeffrey didn't care about skincare or grooming, he let himself go. But Lori still loved him. Needless to say though, she was absolutely thrilled when she saw his new transformation.
Is That Really You?
The moment when Jeffrey walked out on stage, Tori didn't even recognize him. The hair and beard were completely gone. Even the clothes choose so used to seeing him in were a thing of the past.
According to her testimony, she kept on thinking that that was not her husband. To everyone's surprise, Jeffrey look like a completely different person and resembled the man Lori married so long ago.
The Reveal
Jeffrey hadn't seen himself yet. All he went by it was with the audience, Rachael Ray, and his wife showed him. But Jeffrey was eager to see his new look with his own eyes. Feeling a bit exposed, he turned and looked towards the giant screens.
And just like everyone else, Jeffrey couldn't believe his own eyes. He couldn't imagine what he would look like without his long hair and thick beard. No doubt Jeffrey was just as choked up as Lori when seeing his makeover. And like a loving wife should do or he went to her husband and wrapped her arms around him as they took in his new looks.
A New You
Tears holed up in Jeffrey's eyes and when Laura saw it, she couldn't help but start crying herself. Jeffrey's change was something that neither one of them could have expected.
After all, the poor man spent the last 20 years covered and hiding behind long hair and a beard. With all of this gone, it was a complete and total shock.
Handsome
Being a talk show host, Rachael Ray has seen her fair share of makeovers. But she couldn't help herself upon seeing Jeffrey's transformation. According to her, it was one of the best she'd seen on her show.
There wasn't only glory in the audience. Rachael Ray also couldn't believe how different Jeffrey looked. The talk show host even mentioned how he looked a decade younger. And of course, the makeover team got a standing ovation for their amazing work.
Dazzled
Now you would think that the makeover team wouldn't be as shocked to see their work once it was completed. But for Elena and Kyan, they were just as much stunned as everyone else.
Elena was especially proud of her accomplishments and shaving so much off with Jeffrey's head and face. Of course, Jeffrey was extremely thankful for all that she and the rest of the makeover team did. Jeffrey later confessed that he truly felt razzle dazzled after the extraordinary treatment he received.
Stylish
If New York is known for one thing, it would probably be fashion. When Lori and Jeffrey first arrived in New York to film, the Rachael Ray show and get their makeover, Jeffrey looked like a hillbilly. But after everything is said and done, Jeffrey can walk the streets of New York and blend in. Even more, I thought that her husband was even more handsome than ever before.
But Lori wasn't the only one who thought her husband looked different. For the airline, security made a fuss when the couple tried to get on the plane to go back home. Jeffrey looked so different from his identification picture that even the airport security couldn't believe it was him.
Home at Last
After filming was over, Jeffrey and Lori felt kind of strange going back to their quiet life in Missouri. The last few days seem like a blur and surely they had both been caught up in the magic of it. But nonetheless terrific him back looking dapper than ever and was given a new lease on life.
Although the war you would have loved for her husband to keep the new look permanent, she understood that he just wasn't a kind of guy to pay any mind to appearances. And while he has gone back some of his facial hair, he hasn't had a chance to grow back the rest of his hair. But this whole experience has left Jeffrey with an understanding as he tries to take more pride in his appearance.
